The world is a strange and amazing place

The world is an awe inspiring maelstrom of creativity. We want to share some of our musical inspirations about some of the world's music here...

Today's glimpse: Percussion. Country/Region: Guinea, West Africa

West African percussion is exquisite. The heart and soul of West African Percussion are the three cylindrical drums played with bells, called "Dunun", consisting of the Dununba, Sangban and Kenkeni (Given that these names are transliterated, spellings vary greatly.)

Played with the Dunun are the more familiar goblet shaped drums called Djembe.

Here's an exquisitely made short documentary on Djembe and Dunun music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVPLIuBy9CY
